A cat named Galena was accidentally carried in a package 666 miles from her home in Utah to Los Angeles, United States.
Quoted from The Guardian, Galena's owner, Carrie Clark found
out that her beloved cat was missing on Wednesday, April 10, 2024. The incident
got her and her family panicked, so they put up "missing cat" posters
around the neighborhood.
“Galena, our very shy indoor cat ran away today. She is part
of our family and has not been away for a long time," Clark wrote.
Luckily, the cat was found alive at the Amazon warehouse but had lost weight and was dehydrated.
Chronology of how Galena got trapped in the package
The cat, Galena, quietly sneaks around into an open box that
is prepared by the owner to deliver a package containing boots to Los Angeles. Galena
accidentally got trapped in the box when the owner, Carrie Clark, tried to seal
the box. She didn't realize her cat was in the package because the box weighed
more than 30 pounds, as reported by AP News.
Unfortunately, after the package was sealed, Clark
immediately handed it over to the expedition. As a result, Galena had to travel
666 miles across America while still in the box, until it entered the Amazon
online store warehouse.
“She doesn't meow much and she loves the box. So, for her, she
was very happy at that time, I'm sure," Clark said.
But a week later, a veterinarian hundreds of miles away in
Los Angeles, California, contacted Clark and said her cat had been found by a
worker at an Amazon sorting center warehouse in a box along with several pairs
of boots.
“I immediately ran to tell my husband that Galena had been
found and we were distraught when we realized that she must have jumped into
the large box we had delivered the previous Wednesday,” Clark told KSL TV in
Salt Lake City, Utah.
Clark and her husband immediately flew to Los Angeles.
There, they met the Amazon employee, Brandy, who had discovered Galena. Galena
was found hungry and thirsty after being trapped in a cardboard box for six
days. The cat is still alive because part of the box was torn during shipping
so it could get more air.
Clark said Brandy had taken the cat to a veterinarian who
was able to scan Galena's microchip and find out where she lived. In America,
it is common practice to install microchips on pets to help find cats if they
are lost.
